Our class recycles as a part of our Respect for the Environment rule, but it was a special treat to be able to see how the Kansas Recycle Center handles the items we turn in every week. Yesterday we took a trip down to the center and after classroom discussion and lunch with Beth McDonald (the education specialist at the center), we took a tour of the facility and helped volunteers sort the plastics and paper goods we brought. The students were very enthusiastic and even helped other patrons sort their recycling! We ended our tour in the Recycle Center library where the students were able to find a book to take home. They loved this field trip, and it was great reinforcement for our recycling efforts at school!
